Lofoten Islands accommodation, the hidden gem that is Hattvika Lodge.

by Kelly

Looking for your perfect Lofoten Islands accommodation? We found it! Nestled between the mountains of Loften and the coastline is a little hamlet called Ballstad, and its here you will find the magical Hattvika Lodge.

The property, Hattvika Lodge

The property has grown from the original renovated fisherman’s cottages on the jetty. A cluster of hillside chalets, which sit looking out over Ballstad have been added. The serenity here is perfection.

You can rest and recharge or take part in activities which include kayaking, skiing, fishing and yoga. There is a jetty with kayaks available to rent. Or you can take a relaxing sauna and hot tub, the options are yours! In the summer there are incredible hikes close by or a visit to the surfing beach is only a 30 minute drive away.

Hattvika Lodge is owned and run by a local family who are lovely and kind. They make sure all guests feel at home and happy…and it’s hard not to feel happy here!

Our room in the best Lofoten Islands accommodation, Hattvika Lodge!

Lofoten Island Accommodation

We stayed in a hillside chalet perched overlooking the harbour. The rooms are luxurious, and almost seem to draw the landscape inside with their large windows and skylights. This room felt like our own little sanctuary, we were completely at ease and comfortable.

The plush, comfortable bedding is perfect after a day spent exploring. The room was spacious, and the sumptuous styling was incredibly cosy. The perfect escape to relax.

The bathrooms are stylish and modern yet perfectly complimenting the rustic charm of the cabin. The floors are heated and the beautiful light filtering through the sky lights brings in the outdoors. All of the fittings are high end, the bathroom has a luxurious feel to it!

Our evenings were spent sitting serenely in the window, looking for the northern lights before turning in. Luckily for us we saw them before drifting off to the most content, deep sleep.

Seeing the northern lights at Hattvika Lodge

We were so lucky that in the evening we were able to see the beautiful northern lights. We had ventured out to look for them around 9pm and ran into the owner of Hattvika. He directed us to the jetty where he thought we would have some luck. He was right, the lights danced above us for hours until we went back inside.

Restaurant, FANGST, in the best Lofoten Islands accommodation!

There is a restaurant onsite, Fangst. It serves delightful, high quality meals. The views out over the water are magnificent. Still and serene, it is the perfect backdrop for your meal! We watched fishing boats heading out to sea during breakfast then returning in the afternoons.

The breakfast is fresh and everything perfectly placed. The staff are the most welcoming and genuine people we have met. Nothing is too much trouble. They are happy to chat and give tips on what to see in the area.

You must try the lemon & ginger shot that warms you up for a day of adventures. The local Muller’s cod liver oil is also a must do. The lemon flavour is definitely the easiest flavour to try. Locally produced condiments and foods were a hit, Mike loved the cod caviar and brown cheese!
