The best place to stay in Rotterdam, The James Hotel!

by Kelly

Looking for where to stay in Rotterdam? We found it, The James Hotel is the best hotel in Rotterdam!
We were excited for our two days visit and couldn’t wait to see as much as possible. From our first moments in The James Hotel we could tell we had made the right choice. The luxuriously cool aesthetic of the lobby made us excited to check in.

Location

Conveniently located close to the train station we walked easily to the hotel and were greeted by the first of many very friendly and helpful staff members. The James is also located right in the centre of Rotterdam, everything you want to see is within 5 minutes walk.

Check in

Check in was simple at The James. The staff member was so lovely and helped us with a map and the must see attractions of Rotterdam. We were given our keys and headed up to our city view room on the 17th floor!

The room

Our room was styled in a similar aesthetic to the lobby and it was such a cool yet cosy vibe! I loved the luxurious gold wall paper paired with plush green soft furnishings and dark wooden accents.

The bed was huge and ultra comfortable and the rooms heating was just perfect. The detailed styling even extended to the coat hangers which were gold…I was obsessed with the aesthetic and how perfectly each piece added to the overall atmosphere of the room which was sumptuous and indulgent. The view over the city skyline was picturesque especially at sunrise and sunset.

Our bathroom was just as luxuriously styled as the room with dark walls and gold accents.

The James Hotel provides their own bath products in all their rooms, the smell and quality is intoxicating and such a treat after a long journey. The bathroom fittings were all of high quality and the dark tiling gave the space a luxurious spa like feel.

We stayed in room on the 17th floor, it was spacious and very comfortable and quiet. The desk space was perfect for us to catch up on some work and lovely to have separation from rest of the room. The tea and coffee machine was welcome for those moments we popped back into the room when the rain began and we soaked up our serene space watching the drizzle from our window.

Hotel Facilities

Breakfast

Breakfast is available on the second floor. It is a café style self serve set up with pay as you go breakfast options. Don’t worry a staff member will be on hand if you need help with the check out machine but it is very easy to manage!
Mike chose a croissant and coffee while I was excited to see there was a gluten free bread roll with butter and jam! The coffee was great and it set us up perfectly for the day ahead. The prices are excellent and there is also drinks, snacks and microwave meals available for the evenings as well! We loved that this was such a low waste alternative to a buffet breakfast and so much more sustainable.

Gym

There is a gym located on the second floor, it is fully equipped with cardio and weights set up. It is clean and really inviting if you like to stay in routine while on holiday.

Lounge

The cool décor theme runs throughout the whole hotel, the beautiful muted colours and exciting atmosphere is amplified in the lounge and breakfast area.
There is a huge space to find your own little spot to enjoy some drinks or a meal, available from the café if you wish.
This is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and relax over your meal.

There is also selection of The James Hotel souvenirs that are of high quality and very useful. We loved our James Hotel tote bag which is really large and spacious. The locally made Rotterdam biscuits, Maas Stroompjes, which are the original recipe from 1934 were delightful.

Final thoughts

The James Hotel ticked all our boxes for a great hotel! Excellent location, gorgeous aesthetic and the lovely, welcoming staff. The whole hotel was of a high quality and the attention to detail is second to none. The James is an excellent choice for your stay in Rotterdam.
